Plexiglass and Lexan

Plexiglass and Lexan Installation

Plexiglass and Lexan are both products that are popularly known as acrylic or polycarbonate. Lexan is a brand name that, within the glass industry, has largely become synonymous with polycarbonate. Atlanta Highway Glass is experienced at custom-cutting and installing plexiglass and polycarbonate solutions for situations where traditional glass simply is not appropriate. Both products, for example, are lighter than glass and more shatter-resistant.

Acrylic Plexiglass

Plexiglass has a glossy appearance when compared to Lexan, which is reminiscent of looking into very clear water. As compared to Lexan, plexiglass stands up better to scratching and is also up to 10 times more impact-resistant than traditional glass. However, plexiglass does still crack more easily than polycarbonate Lexan. Plexiglass is popular in retail display cases, light fixtures, transparent shelving units, and exterior windows.

Lexan/Polycarbonate

Lexan is up to 250 times more impact-resistant than traditional glass, it but can scratch relatively easily. Polycarbonate is also highly resistant to flame and can withstand chemicals very well. Lexan is popular in applications such as bullet or impact-resistant doors and windows, technology and machinery protection, industrial guards, and outdoor signage.
